QUALITY IMPROVEMENTS

Within a short span of first 1.5 – 2 years of his appointment, he transformed Cambridge “Breast” Unit into an “Oncoplastic Breast” Unit by introducing:

– Advanced Oncoplastic Breast Preserving Surgical techniques

– Reconstructive Surgery service (previously only by plastic surgery colleagues)

– Breast Surgery Audit mechanisms and meetings and

– now spearheading regularisation of “Patient Reported Outcomes Measures (PROMS)”, a measure of ensuring highest possible quality of surgery as reported by women themselves.

 

NEW ONCOPLASTIC TECHNIQUES, he has introduced in the Cambridge Breast Unit include

 

– Therapeutic Mammoplasty – cancer lumpectomy with Breast Reduction

– Therapeutic Mastopexy – cancer lumpectomy with Breast Lift

– LiCAP / LTAP /TDAP flaps – partial breast reconstruction with fat-only flap based on chest wall small blood vessels following large lumpectomy, thus maintaining breast shape and avoiding mastectomy in many cases. He is one of the very few breast/plastic surgeons in the UK performing this surgery

– Breast Reconstruction – full breast reconstruction with implant and ADM (Acellular Dermal Matrix –  animal derived mesh) and is adept in LD (back muscle) flap and newer fat-only chest wall flap (TDAP) in suitable cases as well as the very latest Goldilocks Mastectomy reconstruction

– Lipomodelling / Fat grafting – liposuction from abdominal wall or thighs and grafting into unavoidable lumpectomy defects or defects that develop after radiotherapy

 

TRAINING

He has had training in Breast Surgical Oncology and advanced Oncoplastic and Reconstructive Breast Surgery at internationally leading Breast Centres (Nottingham, Derby) complemented by short-term fellowships in Paris and Brussels.

 

RESEARCH AND TEACHING

He gained DM (Doctor of Medicine) degree (University of Nottingham) following laboratory-based research in Breast Cancer in collaboration with the Universities of Cardiff and Sheffield. Further, he has PGCHE (Post-Graduate certification in Higher Education credits  Higher Education Academy, UK).

 

PUBLICATIONS

Mr Agrawal continues to consolidate his research experience as a Clinical Lecturer in Breast Surgery (University of Nottingham). To date, he has published extensively and has presented/lectured in numerous national and international Breast Cancer conferences.
