Life to the living …. by Oncoplastic Breast Surgery

The survival rates following Breast Cancer treatment are improving.  Hence, we have more women amidst us who wish to lead a “normal” life and not simply be a “cancer survivor”. No more, it is acceptable for women to have to live with deformed and mutilated breasts as an inevitable sequel of cancer treatment. So how do we address this issue ?

Oncoplastic Breast surgery is a new offshoot from the amalgamation of “science” of Oncology with the “art” of Surgery evolved over the last 15 years. Modern Oncoplastic Breast Surgeons trained within the last 15 years spend final few years of their specialist training wholly and solely in Breast Oncoplastic and Reconstructive Surgery (un-distracted by surgery to other areas of the body such as lips, buttocks etc).

This new generation of Oncoplastic Breast surgeons have advanced diagnostic skills and are adept in both the oncological therapeutic component as well as the aesthetic aspects of the breast anatomy. They understand and recognise the potential adverse impact of cancer treatment on breast aesthetics, body image, psychological state and sexuality of the individual woman. They thus can provide any existing range of options to not only maintain the aesthetics of the breast but even improve without, whatsoever, compromising the cancer treatment.

Therefore, no more resignation or designation of “survivor”, why not just be a “woman” or “me again” ?

No more “war” with deformity …. let’s maintain “peace” …let’s give “life to the living” !!
